Good day,
(Some interesting things, read through!)
Ok, following your instructions, I got a fresh gcl from CVS. I compiled
it, and made it. ./configure finds libreadline. Ok. Everything checks out.

Yes, it does.

That's correct.

Yes, it is.

For completeness sake...

*****However!!! Here the arrows work!!!*****
*****They work!!!*****
However, it is somewhat non-standard as I'm used to type "ctrl-d" to
quit a program. Here it won't quit and I don't know what to do, so I
have to go to another shell and kill the process.
Following this, I was hopeful. I checked out Maxima again. Change with
the following two lines
MAXDIR=/home/lemire/cvs/maxima/maxima-pre59
GCLDIR=/home/lemire/CVS/gcl/gcl
I built a fresh Maxima. (.configure, make, make install).
No go. Maxima has still the same problem!
So this would seem to be a maxima problem, not a gcl problem, even
though, I'd like to know how the h*ll you quit gcl...!!!
