We definitely mean to have a self installing version. I didn't mean we
want to do away with a self installing version - I mean we have a
better way. The deliver stuff was used for the original 5.5 binary
Bill released. A while ago I was able to duplicate the functionality
of deliver using a program called InnoSetup, which produces a much more
standard looking install process and is relatively straigtforward to
use. The file produced with the new tool is available on the
sourceforge site - it contains the same files as the old
self-installing version, and appears to work well. I've tested it on
Windows 98 machines successfully - it installs a working maxima system.
I asked for other people to test it, but I don't think I got any
takers. Once it is confirmed to work, I would advocate using InnoSetup
over the old system for Windows releases.
