xmaxima should now be working in the cvs version of maxima. It has not
been extensively tested. xmaxima now talks to maxima through the maxima
front-end script. However, if the maxima script is unavailable, as it
might be on Windows, xmaxima will attempt to talk directly to the GCL
saved image. This way we can provide a working windows installation
without Bourne shell. The windows functionality has not been tested.
I should make a few comments on xmaxima:
1) I don't use xmaxima.
2) I don't like working on xmaxima.
3) There are plans to work on a better maxima GUI after 6.0 is
released.
Basic bug-fixing will continue, but extensive work on xmaxima is not
going to happen unless someone steps forward to do it.
