It usually means A1 has been used somewhere within maxima. I see that
it exists but have no idea where it's being used or how it gets
defined.
Perhaps now would be a good time to try to implement the MAXIMA and
MAXIMA-USER package idea. Then only explicitly exported symbols from
MAXIMA will get this treatment (I think). But this is a pretty major
undertaking.
