A question on capital and lower-case symbols

Many thanks for your so prompt reply and comments, which
are greatly appreciated. I understand that this treatment of the 
symbol A1 is not a regular one and the introduction of the 
Maxima and Maxima-User packages in the future will be very
helpful. (I do not know whether this is already the case in
Mathematica.)

In case I will be able to find similar (but nontrivial!) situations
with additional symbols, I will let you know.
