But from the description in the book, emaxima depends on having that tool
of the devil, (shudder) emacs, on your system - I don't. I've been trying
to set up something similar to work with a decent editor, but as I said,
free time is something of an imaginary quantity in my life at the moment
:-)

I read the description of that command in the manual (which is at home, so
I can't quote it exactly), but as I recall, it said that the information
is written out in a form that isn't exactly human-readable. It's more of
a state-save file, which maxima can read to restore a session. Did I miss
or mis-interpret something?
