I contacted them actually - they were the ones who explained why the
build was failing. It seems that there is some client/server code they
don't use any more, but the makefile still tries to build. If they
release a tarball with the cruft cleaned out and the makefile updated
it should work fine. Ironciallly, it did build successfully, but I
didn't realise it because it exited with the error.
I think it needs a make install option and a startup script that sets
all the variables it needs like tgf directory at runtime, but that's
just me wanting convenience. :-) It was easy enough to set up.

Well, I guess my first question would be where do I start ;-). I
didn't pay as much attention as I should have originally, since I
hadn't resolved my pigale issues - how does your package interface with
it? Is it like the gnuplot interface where it opens pigale to view the
results?

Well, there are a couple non-commercial use only packages we can list
there, certainly.
