That's true in GNU Emacs, but not in XEmacs which Osmo is using.
XEmacs does not put messages in a *Messages* buffer. If you want to
view them you use `C-h l' which displays both recent input and recent
messages. Here's the XEmacs docstring for `C-h l' (view-lossage):
