How about just converting the TeX source (in C) so
that it runs in Lisp directly? I suspect that DVI
and such stuff could be removed, and have direct
postscript output in some way rather than DVI.
Bill Schelter at one time had an interactive
version of typesetting that was similar in
output quality to TeX running on Lisp Machines. He tended
to do things casually when no one was looking...
