I doubt that it's just you; Andrei seems to want it, for example.
At any rate, it's just a couple of lines, which have will be added to
CVS as soon as I can (I'm having trouble committing right now).
Setting the customizable variable  
maxima-use-full-color-in-process-buffer
to t will turn on font-locking in the Maxima process buffer.
This makes the preface look bad, though, so I'll fix that soon.
