Although I'm also guilty of having maxima discussions that don't occur
on the maxima lists, I think, in general, any discussion on maxima
should occur on the maxima lists.
For me, this is mostly a way of archiving ideas so that a year or 10
from now, when someone says "Why was such and such done such a silly
way", someone can point to some archived message saying "This and that
approach was carefully considered and we decided this was the best
way".
As long as the subject line is appropriate (unlike it is now), I can
easily decide to ignore such discussions. :-)
