Re: a CD with texmacs and maxima

Hi

The easiest way I found to run Maxima/Texmacs Combination on windows
machines was to download the Quantian(
http://dirk.eddelbuettel.com/quantian/) iso CD image from

http://www.analytics.washington.edu/downloads/quantian/

or from

http://franz.stat.wisc.edu/~edd/quantian/

Then I copied the iso image to a CD-R using Roxio CD writer program. The
iso CD image has to be expanded and Roxio allows that. The win system is
rebooted from the Quantian CD. This will bring up the KNNOPIX linux
with KDE. The interface is very similar to the windows. The Texmacs is
in the Editors and it can be started from the menu. Once texmacs is
running , use the options menu text/session/maxima. This should open a
maxima session within texmacs.

The KNOPPIX only allows read only access to the harddisk and the
TEXAMCS/MAXIMA files are saved in the RAMDISK. These files has to be
ftp'd or e-mailed as an attachment to a different account to save the
work done during the session. Same goes for the plots that are created
during the session. Texmacs allows to export files in .ps format,
therefore the ghostscript/ghostview for windows is also needed for this
set to work.

I have not experimented with CD-RW to get around this problem because I
managed to run maxima/texmacs using cygwin on winXP/2000 systems. But I
think it is a worth the try.

regards
