Getting started (FreeBSD)

Hi!

I installed maxima on my FreeBSD machine.

Whatever I type into the input window, let's say
5+3;
will produce an error message like this:

"set _WinInfo[set win]($var)"
    (procedure "oget" line 4)

    (procedure "CMeval" line 24)
    invoked from within
"CMeval .maxima.text  "
    (command bound to event)
		------------------------------------

Has anybody else seen this?
Do you need more information?
