Hello James,
I have a version of numericalio.lisp which I think is ready
to be checked into cvs. I don't yet have cvs write permission, so
I've posted archives (tar.gz & zip) to: http://riso.sf.net/maxima/
which contain the code proper (numericalio.lisp) and also
test scripts and data files.
The code passes the tests (such as they are) with Maxima 5.9.0
on cmucl 18d, and also cvs Maxima circa 2003/11/28 on clisp 2.31.
I'm running RedHat 7.1 on Linux 2.4.2.
You suggested before that numericalio.lisp go into share/contrib/.
That sounds good. I'd like to also post the testing files --
can they go into a suitable subdirectory under tests ?
The header comment in numericalio.lisp describes the functions.
In summary, there are functions to read & write a matrix, list,
nested list, hashed array, and arrays made by ARRAY and MAKE_ARRAY.
Elements can be integers, floats, rationals, complex, or symbols.
You can write with any separator character but only read with
space-separated elements. (Comma-separated is in development.)
Hope this helps,
Robert Dodier
