CY points out that this things are available in the most recent versions
of gnuplot. Of course, we are not going to get rid of openmath plotting,
so you could always switch back to it for 3d plotting.

Unfortunately, the license on SciLab would not allow us to incorporate
it directly into Maxima. If someone wrote a wrapper to simply call
scilab from Maxima, we could incorporate that.

I would like to see a better graphics solution for Maxima in the long
term. I think gnuplot is the best available solution for right now,
however.
