We are finally ready to start the release process for Maxima 5.9.1. Here
are my notes. As always, I am soliciting input from the list.
1) Code freeze: We will have a new feature freeze starting within a week
or so. A separate message on the freeze will follow.
2) Release naming: I would like to improve on the naming scheme I used
last time. I plan to call the first release in this cycle Maxima
5.9.0.9beta1. If there are more betas, they will be 5.9.0.9beta2, etc.
There will at least one release candidate 5.9.0.9rc1. I hope there will
be only one. These names seem ridiculously long, but they should avoid
the problems in the last release due to package managers not recognizing
that 5.9.0 came after 5.9.0rc3.
3) Outstanding issues: Here are the outstanding issues that need to be
solved before the full release. This is only my list -- input from the
rest of you is definitely needed.
a) The packaging needs to be updated to make sure that new files are
included in the distribution tarball and properly installed.
b) There is an outstanding issue with the default cmucl runtime reported
by Vadim.
c) I would like to make sure that all the bug fixes that have
accumulated in the bug database without being applied get applied before
the release.
d) I need to add the new gnuplot stuff to the official documentation.
e) *What else needs to be here?*
4) Windows installer: I would like to have a plan for the preparation of
the windows installer.
5) Future releases: I definitely plan to increase the frequency of
releases after 5.9.1. Don't assume it will be another year before 5.9.2.
