You can always put a redefinition of the prompt variables in your init
file. Advanced users might indeed want to reduce keystroke count, and
can do so easily, but the important thing is they have to make the
effort to use something different and so can expected to be aware of
potential name conflicts. I think for the default, which first time
users would see, a safe choice should be made. That way newbies aren't
caught (we've seen several bug reports related to this issue already,
and my guess is we still have a pretty small user base) and experienced
users can tweak it as they will.
Defaults should always be chosen so that a new/casual user can use the
system successfully with a minimum of fuss. Anything else will result
in a frustrated new user, and they will have an poor initial impression
of the system that they will convey to others. I'd argue it is
important for the user to have the ABILITY to change the system, but it
is a bad idea for them to NEED to up front in order to have a safe
working environment.
