Ah. Now we are getting somewhere. There *is* a problem with Maxima 5.9.0
and clisp versions after 2.29. I don't know about the clisp/OS X issues.

clisp 2.33.2 is the first version that works well for me on Fedora Core
2. I don't know if the problems they fixed also apply to OS X, but it
would be worth checking.

Nope. Maxima 5.9.0 will not work with clisp 2.29. Any of the recent
snapshot releases will work with the current version of clisp.
