If you haven't done so already, please file a bug report for 

residue(((z-a)*(z-b))^(-1/2),z,INF) ---> 0

along with your fix. Interestingly, my version
of Macsyma (not the newest) also has this bug. So 
you found a long-standing bug.

Your fix looks okay to me. Thanks for the note.
