Hello all,
While we're all jumping in, I'd like to add that I see
pretty much the same difficulties that Stavros Macrakis pointed out.
I do appreciate the difficulty of the problem, but I'm
confident that we'll come to an agreeable solution soon.
>From the discussion, it appears that part of the motivation
for an identifier case scheme is to make it easier to work
with identifiers in the Lisp source code. My gut feeling is
that we should avoid changes to the identifier system
which make programming easier at the user's expense.
A tangential remark -- so far BumpyNames (a Java/C++ faddism)
hasn't infected Maxima, since real_programmers_use_underscores.
I hope that case sensitivity wouldn't inspire someone to
start making SillyNamesLikeThis.
For what it's worth,
Robert Dodier
