For the benefit of others -- the context here is the description
of "showtime".
I guess I'd recommend against anything that won't work
on all supported Lisp implementations. But if there's a
way to get the required info for all Lisps, then I don't
have any objection.
Fwiw, in looking at the history of src/macsys.lisp (where
the time-elapsed message is printed when $showtime is non-nil)
it looks like the gc message fell by the wayside some time
before rev 1.1.
