Your patch renews my interest in keeping up with the current defsystem.
Here's my new plan: I'll check in defsystem 1.88 + your patches along
with defsystem 1.88 in a separate file. I will then add a short
description of how to merge changes with newer versions of defsystem. I
think this scheme will allow us to keep up with defsystem changes much
more reliably.
