Agreed 100%. We're heading in that direction, I believe.
Simplification is near the top of my to-do list, as it happens.

Agreed here as well. Some progress has been made toward this goal.
If you haven't rebuilt the texinfo documentation from cvs
lately, maybe you would consider it. At this point most of
items have been touched at least once in the last 6 months.
While the old texinfo stuff was incomplete, garbled, and/or
misleading, I believe it is now (mostly) only incomplete.
Perhaps after another pass the documentation will be
really useful.
