Fix for [ 1173788 ] assigning operators - case sensitivi ty problem?

As it happens, this question is addressed in SF bug
report # 797401, in which Stavros M weighs in with
"infix should return string, not internal op". 
I'm inclined to agree, not just for infix of course,
but for all operator types.
