I think I am finally ready to agree to this change.  (I appreciate your

Presumably you have the code integrated into maxima.system, etc. If so,
go ahead and commit to cvs. If not, I can commit my copy. I put tty-io
in the prerequisites module. Where did you put it?

The additional newlines certainly aren't a major problem. I thought I
originally described them as my "pet peeve" on the mailing list, but I
can't find the original message. Anyway, it is mostly a neatness issue.
