Sorry Bob,
what I described, definitely works on Windows. I didn't know, that Maxima =
for Debian is 
so different. I think this is due to the different user home directories. =
Someone else must 
help.

In 'DOE-Maxima Reference Manual.pdf' I found the following.

An Init file is a file which is loaded automatically for you when you star=
t up a Maxima, 
to customize Maxima for you. The init file defaults to the filename ˜Maxim=
a-
init.l™ in the users home directory. It is possible to have an init file w=
ritten as a 
BATCH file of Maxima commands. We hope this makes it easier
for users to customize their Maxima environment. Here is an example init f=
ile
setup_autoload("share/bessel", j0, j1, jn);
showtime:all; comgrind:true;

So= rry Bob,
wh= at I described, definitely works on Windows. I didn't know, that Maxima fo= r Debian is so different. I think this is due to the different user home directories. = Someone else must help.
