Breaking up large numbers in (GNU Emacs) imaxima?

Imaxima is trying to do the layout of output by itself,
so, although the built-in Maxima output code knows
how to break up long atoms, it doesn't affect Imaxima.

You might consider using Texmacs, which does break
long atoms (whether by itself or with Maxima's help, I dunno),
or Xmaxima, which just pipes Maxima's output to its
own display, or just use the plain-text user interface.
