Standard maxima installation under Linux?

so far as i know, working around this behavior is completely a mess.
however, there are several front-end programs so i guess that it
has been solved in different ways. see:

i am hoping to figure out a way to discourage maxima from
asking questions. maybe it will be ready by the time you need it,
but then again maybe not.
