Subject: Proposed additions to Maxima's reference manual

Just looking at the beginning of the introduction, I am
(again) unhappy that "expand" is used as nearly the first example.
ratexpand, which works on expanding polynomials and rational
functions, is much much faster.
Probably 40% of the complaints that Maxima/ Macsyma is slow
have to do with using "expand" inappropriately. Replacing it with ratexpand
or rat
would often make a big difference.
Perhaps someone should fix up the expand command and have
it look at a few flags like expon and expop -- determine if it is really
intended or not --
and just call ratexpand most of the time??
