Why does the 'tex' function use {\it ...} to tex just about everything?
When
did this start and why? Maybe it's not wrong, but it generates lengthy
TeX that can be frustrating to hand-tune. A simple example:
(%i1) tex(x)$
$${\it x}$$
(%i2) build_info();
Maxima version: 5.9.2.19cvs
Maxima build date: 13:40 3/22/2006
