Re: How to use Lie Groups in differential equation

Thank you everyone for the reply. In particular, Herb Martin's response
and link-fest should keep me going for several months.
I LOVE the Firefox/Scrapbook extension! I snaffled all the links into
Scrapbook to read at leisure.

Raffaele, I grabbed the Macsyma package to have a look at. I'd love to
program this into maxima, but unfortunately I come from a Python
background rather than Lisp.

David, I'll look at the maxima code, though I was kind of hoping that
Lie analysis could step beyond first order ODE's. This entire episode
was inspired by trying to use maxima to solve a complex set of
differential equations - and finding out that the set was too complex
for maxima. The set of equations is forgotten now, but the interest in
learning new methods still lingers.

Again, thank you everyone for the reply.

PS: Does anyone know how I can set up thunderbird to automatically
address replies to the maxima mail list, rather than attempting to send
through the gmane newsgroup? I can change it once the compose window
pops up, but it'd be nice for it to be automatic.
