OK, I found that
cvs -d :ext:robert_dodier at maxima.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/maxima up
successfully updated.
The web interface is supposed to be replaced (by ViewVC
instead of ViewCVS) but it seems like that hasn't happened yet.
CVS should be faster and more stable now, since SF has
spread the CVS load among multiple servers. If CVS
continues to be problematic we might revisit the question
of switching from SF+CVS to some other combo. But
we;ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
