NIST

Is there some specific location on this web site to look for a mention of
Maxima?
There are many points of common interest, and there was at least one
presentation at NIST (by B. Char, J. Johnson, and me) about how DLMF should
be intimately tied to computer algebra programs.
I would be most interested in learning more of the intended nature of the
reference to Maxima; as far as I can recall, the original A&S was used as an
authority on issues of branch cuts etc.

The NIST, which was the publisher of Handbook of Mathematical Functions
by Abramowitz and Stegun, plans to reference Maxima as a source of
mathematical functions in their new Digital Library of Mathematical
Functions. Here is a link to the Digital Library.
