number printing problems in 5.9.3 xmaxima on windows/GCL

OK, here is the code:

	       return;
	     }
	   else
		FEerror("Can't print a non-number.",
			0);}

So perhaps this is libc version dependent.  If so, we probably should
make it not so.

Mike, do you have comment here?  Do you have a 2.6.8pre test installer
somewhere?
