That has already been implemented in Xmaxima. Use
Alt-p and Alt-n to navigate the history of previous
commands (or select "Previous Input" and "Next Input"
in the "Edit" menu).
If you want to recall the commands you've typed before,
starting with something, for instance "int", type int
and then press Alt-p one or more times.
