You probably don't have the correct font selected for displaying Greek
characters. In the configuration dialog select a font which has Greek
characters like Times New Roman (Greek should be listed in Script option in
the font dialog). wxMaxima does not use a special font (like Symbol) for
displaying Greek characters, it uses fonts which have cp1253 encoding.
