On ubuntu:
apt-get install clisp
apt-get remove gcl
done!
now it works with the already installed wxmaxima (which depends from the
buggy maxima ubuntu package that I left unused).
I write it here in this list in the hope that could be useful to some other
"ubuntero" :-)
