Works for me with (uninstalled) 5.10.0

(%i1) load('pdiff);
(%o1)     /usr/local/src/maxima-5.10.0/share/contrib/pdiff/pdiff.lisp

and 

(%i1) load('mactex);
(%o1)            /usr/local/src/maxima-5.10.0/src/mactex.lisp
