We have a lot to lose. A single, baseless lawsuit could easily

The Scheme code has the same variable names and the same
literal string in it as the C code. This suggests to me it's a line
by line translation. I don't have the time to investigate further.
Agreed that writing new code from a textual description is not
creating a derived work.
