Oops! I thought that the changes made in the release branch would then
be blended into the main branch after the release was done. Therefore,
I made some changes in the release branch but not in the main branch.
I have fixed the problem with the ?? and will check for other changes
that I made, to make sure they are included in the main branch.

You are right; it sounds very strange. I will have to investigate the
cause of that problem.
