[Newbie:] How to clean up a wxMaxima worksheet?

Hello,

I am using wxMaxima as a front-end to maxima. While that works great for
some interactive manipulations, I have some question to a more batch
oriented work, which is probably not limited to the particular front-end.

When working interactively, I am trying out things, which might show up to
be not really helpful later on, e.g. simplifications, that did not make the
problem more simple. For the interactive work, calling previous results by
their absolute name (e.g. %o3, %t73) is fine. Saving the work as a worksheet
is also perfect.

Nevertheless, if I want to clean up the worksheet, I do not know how to get
rid of the "side branches". It is simple to edit a *.wxm file with a
standard editor, even without violating the format of the file. But keeping
track of absolute reference numbers / names is difficult. This is especially
true for the automatically generated "extra lines" like the %txx - numbers
form pickapart as I do not know how to give user-supplied names to them for
later reference.

Any idea / hint ?

Thanks,
