I have given up on my XP maschine. On another maschine with Windows 2000 Maxima runs without any problems. I am very impressed with Maximas functionalities - maybe some day someone will stumble over the XP problem.

For what it is worth, I have a machine in my office on which I have never
been able to run Maxima, probably because of DEP.
I have read all the instructions. I have other machines (not identical) on
which Maxima works.
I have not been able to fix this one machine (running Windows XP.)
If you succeed, I will try your fix, too!
