Assuming not equal to



This is a bug--if you could file a bug report, please do. I can't
think of a workaround. Maxima doesn't allow 'or; assertions
(for example assume(k < 1 or k > 1)). You can try

(%i1) assume((x-1)^2 > 0);
(%o1) [(x-1)^2>0]
(%i2) is(equal(x,1));
(%o2) unknown

But that doesn't work either.
