I am thinking of converting an old intel laptop to run some version of unix,
since the laptop
is otherwise kind of redundant.
Students here seem to prefer ubuntu.
Is this a good idea if I want to run lisps and maxima? Or is something else
better?
It would be nice to have a simple installation, and an otherwise functioning
unix networking system..
Thanks for suggestions.
I'm not the right person to ask about this - our sysadmin keeps our
machines running, and I personally have a Mac. As far as I know,
Allegro CL runs well on any linux or freebsd, and either of those
would work well for networking just get the latest kernel for any of
those. Things to be concerned about nowadays are having enough
memory, disk, and speed, whatever os you are running.
