open-source lisps for Maxima?

Hi,

I'm having trouble with installing the Gnu clisp
for Maxima, so I hope I can bother you with a request
for some tips:

The problem is that clisp seems to have a strange
build system which withstands any attempts for
automatisation --- but I need this for the
users of my platform.

Are there other open-source lisps out there
which can be recommended?

Or, by chance, did somebody experience the same
problems with building the gnu clisp (http://www.clisp.org/),
that when calling it using make and bash under Linux,
then it gets the paths wrong, and perhaps somebody knows
what to do about it? (While when entering the same
instructions on the command line, then the build
succeeds.)

This clisp-installation problem is really a stumbling
block for the employment of Maxima for my platform:
My platform is Linux only (for various reasons),
and then a windows-user who installs Linux and
then my platform needs every help to get the
installations automatically done --- and yesterday
in a life-session I made the experience that they
stumble about every problem you could not
even imagine :-(.

Thanks for any little tip!

Oliver
