The 874 page maxima pdf would not, I think, be a very useful printed book.
Much better would be an updated version of "The Maxima Book":
http://maxima.sourceforge.net/docs/maximabook/maximabook-19-Sept-2004.pdfwhich
is at least nicely typeset.
