Subject: "fastfib" in the gf package faster than "fib"

If it involves too much work I understand your point.
Another possibility could be to take it out
of the gf package and make it available
together with "fib" with no need for "fastfib"
to load the gf package for finite fields
(it shouldn't be there anyway).
I could try to convince you by telling you that
the Fibonacci sequence is an important sequence
with lots of applications and
it is often used by casual users to test how fast a
system is.
