I wasn't seriously suggesting that we do that. (But 5000 lines is
better than the 41000 line file for xemacs, that is checked in.)
But this does make maxima different from most other software that uses
configure. All other software that I've used includes configure, so I
don't have to run autoconf on it.
But since no one has complained about having to run bootstrap before
configuring, I see no reason to change.
