I think that is "chain rule"
(fg)'=f'g+fg'
((x^2+1)/x)'
=(x^2+1)'/x+(x^2+1)(1/x)'
=2-(x^2+1)/x^2
so, that is the answer form maxima
you may use
(%i3) diff(expand((x^2+1)/x),x);
(%o3) 1-1/x^2
