no further 5.17 release planned at this time

  All right! I did not complain, but I had to report that 
  in any of my windows systems (WNT4&SP6a, WXPP&SP3, WVHB&SP1 
  or WVB&SP1) I had no problems with Maxima -that is  
  from 5.9.0 (10/2/2003) up to 5.16.3, included- until 5.17.0, 
  5.17.1, which, surprisingly enough, were hanged up under 
  WXPH&SP3, where they were tested. 

  Therefore, I tested 5.17.1 again in WXPP&SP3, and there:

  "No unexpected errors were found."
  
  I do not dare to attempt any suggestion.
